Man Killed in Tragic Slip and Fall North of Saginaw

A 58 year-old Gratiot County man was killed recently in an accident about 75 miles northeast of Saginaw. The incident occurred at the Cooperative Elevator Company. According to reports, the man was a contractor working on a feed mill. He fell approximately 60 feet through an opening and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Local residents of the small farming community were saddened to hear of the tragedy. Such accidents are less common in areas with low population and few industrial facilities. Areas such as Saginaw, Flint, and Detroit, however, see more of these slip and fall type incidents.

Everyday, local Michigan workers are asked to perform dangerous jobs. Their skills and training allow them to avoid injuries most of the time, but the numbers show some workers will eventually get hurt. Slip and fall accidents are one of the most notorious ways in which this happens. A slippery surface or an unexpected stimuli can cause a worker to lose their balance and either fall from significant heights or fall into dangerous machinery.

These work accidents can result in death or serious injuries. Fortunately, the injured worker and/or his family are generally entitled to compensation for injuries sustained on the job. Michigan's workers' compensation scheme protects victims of slip and falls from going it alone. From covering medical expenses to paying lost wages, Michigan workers are entitled to this assistance.

Local Saginaw workers' compensation attorneys work to ensure that these funds are disbursed. The legislative scheme, though meant to curb abuses, can deny funds to an injured worker that is properly entitled to receive them. As a result, those injured in a workplace incident are urged to consider consulting a professional on what they need to do to recoup the funds designated for them.
