Icy roads can lead to workers’ compensation claims

Another round of wintry weather in Michigan has left cars mangled and people in the hospital. A 70-car pile-up on I-94 near Kalamazoo grabbed much of the headlines as several people sustained serious injuries and one person was killed. The pile-up included two semis, one carrying fireworks and the other a toxic substance. The massive wreck is being attributed to slick streets and low visibility.

Motor vehicle accidents remain one of the biggest causes of workers’ compensation claims in Michigan. While certainly some of the cars in the pile-up were on personal business, many, including the semi-drivers, were presumably on the clock doing a job for their bosses. Now, these victims lie injured and have questions about what to do next.

When a worker is injured while driving for their employer, they are entitled to collect workers’ compensation benefits regardless of who was at fault in the accident. If another driver caused the accident through negligence, the injured worker can also bring a personal injury claim against that driver and recover additional compensation.

Local Saginaw area workers’ compensation lawyers have experience representing injured workers in the claims process. Their skills have helped thousands of local workers obtain reimbursement for medical expenses and lost wages.

An injury on the job can be an extremely stressful event. If you or a loved one has been injured on the job, whether in a weather-related car accident or otherwise, a local Saginaw area workers’ compensation attorney can protect your rights and help you get the recovery you deserve.
